Lower House approves legislative amendments to extend age of maintenance to 23 years
The Lower House has approved legislative amendments to extend the age of maintenance of a child by a parent to 23 years old.
The amendments to the maintenance laws were approved yesterday.
Currently, the law states that individuals up to age 18 must receive maintenance support from their parents or guardians.
Speaking in Parliament yesterday Justice Minister Delroy Chuck noted that the issue with the law came to the fore when a child pursuing tertiary level education was unable to get maintenance support having attained the age of 18 years.
