An increase in salary for members of the local government political directorate has been approved by cabinet.

Finance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke outlined the increases in parliament, on Tuesday.

The increases apply to the fiscal year periods, from 2021 to 2024.

The salary ranges for mayors of Kingston and Montego-bay are slightly higher than for those in other parishes.

As of next April, the Kingston Mayor will get $11 million a year, while the Montego-Bay Mayor will get $10 million.

The ranges for deputy mayor also vary.

Dr. Clarke said parish councillors will get over $5 million a year, effective April 2024.

He also indicated that non reimbursable allowances, such as telephone and other fixed allowances, will be discontinued.
