Local Government Minister to make Cabinet submission for construction of new St Ann infirmary
Minister of Local Government and Community Development Desmond Mckenzie says he will be making a submission to Cabinet on monday for the construction of a new infirmary in St. Ann.
He made the statement while touring the current infirmary in priory in the parish.
The facility suffered significant damage during the passage of Hurricane Melissa, last year.
The purpose of today’s visit was to assess the damage, and progress of the ongoing repairs to the facility.
According to Mr Mckenzie, a new infirmary will be built at a new location as Hurricane Melissa has proven that the current location is unsafe.
While he did not give the exact figure, the minister said funds will be spent to retrofit the administrative office at the infirmary, and carry out other minor adjustments.
