Minister of Local Government and Community Development Desmond Mckenzie is commending the Jamaica Fire Brigade for its swift and sustained response to the massive fire that broke out at Superior Auto Parts earlier today.
The fire has now been contained.
In a statement, the Minister also expressed appreciation to the National Water Commission which provided critical assistance to fire fighters.
He said this intervention was especially important, given the challenges with drought conditions, as well as the fact that the fire occurred in an intensely built-up area with homes and businesses in close proximity.
Despite the regrettable devastation suffered by the principals and employees of Superior Parts, McKenzie said there is no question that lives were saved today as well as nearby properties, especially considering that there is a chemical factory among them.
He noted that the collaboration between the agencies once again demonstrates the vital importance of a joined-up government.
