Local celebrations for the life of Ernie Smith set for June 5
Reggae icon Ernie Smith will be remembered and celebrated at a special celebration of life event on Friday, June 5, at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre in Kingston.
The announcement was made by Culture and Entertainment Minister, Olivia Grange, who described the occasion as “an evening of music, memories and celebration.”
The event, which begins at 6 p.m., will highlight and honour Smith’s significant contribution to Jamaican music and culture.
Smith, one of Jamaica’s most respected singers and songwriters, passed away last month in the United States after a period of illness. Throughout a career, spanning decades, he earned acclaim for his distinctive sound, compelling storytelling and socially conscious lyrics.
