Lobby group calls on PM to ensure safety measures are implemented in schools
There is a call for Prime Minister Andrew Holness to ensure that the necessary safety measures are implemented in schools.
The appeal from lobby group, Hear the Children’s Cry, follows the murder of 8-year-old Danielle Rowe.
Danielle, who was reportedly taken from the Braeton Primary school in St. Catherine, was found in Kingston with her throat slashed, on Thursday.
She was taken to hospital where she succumbed to her injuries on Saturday.
Prime Minister Andrew Holness is among several public officials who have condemned the young girl’s killing.
He has instructed the education ministry to have all schools review their safety and security policy.
In a statement on Sunday, founder of Hear the Children’s Cry Betty Ann Blaine noted numerous recent incidents of violence against children and issues surrounding safety in schools.
She said while Prime Minister Holness has publicly condemned the incident, he must ensure that the necessary safety measures are in place in schools to protect children.
