Chief Executive Officer of the National Fisheries Authority, Dr. Gavin Bellamy is encouraging Jamaicans to refrain from fishing in special fishery conservation areas, otherwise known as fish sanctuaries.

The sanctuaries, which are located across the island, are no-fishing zones reserved for the reproduction of fish populations.

Noting that it is illegal to fish in the demarcated areas, Dr. Bellamy stressed the need for citizens to allow the country’s fish stock to thrive.
