Leon Bailey sidelined for four weeks after thigh injury at Roma
Reggae Boy Leon Bailey faces a frustrating start to life at Roma after suffering a serious thigh injury that will keep him sidelined for at least four weeks.
The 28-year-old winger picked up the knock during his very first training session with the Italian giants last week, shortly after completing his loan move from Aston Villa. Roma hold an option to make the deal permanent for around €24 million.
Medical reports confirmed that Bailey sustained a myotendinous lesion of his right rectus femoris, an injury that will require further diagnostic tests to determine the full extent of the damage.
As a result, Bailey has already missed Roma’s Serie A opener, a 1-0 victory over Bologna, and will sit out this weekend’s clash against newly-promoted Pisa. His recovery timeline also places him in doubt for upcoming fixtures against Torino and bitter rivals Lazio after the September international break.
Perhaps most significantly, Bailey will not be available for the Reggae Boyz as Jamaica begin their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign in September—a major setback for Steve McClaren’s squad as they seek a strong start on the road to the finals.
