Legendary Cuban Olympian Alberto Juantorena recovering from degenerative disease
Legendary Cuban Olympic champion Alberto Juantorena is today recovering at home from what has been reported as a degenerative disease.
The Montreal Olympics double gold medalist who has speech difficulties as a result of the condition, is now in the rehabilitation process and must use a wheelchair to limit the progression of the illness.
It has been reported that the disease has kept him away from his duties as a track and field official and from his position in Paralympic sports.
Juatereno, who is the only athlete to win both the 400 and 800 metres Olympic titles, was appointed honorary member of the World Athletics council in august and also received the gold order of merit, the highest award given by the world’s governing Body of Athletics.
