Late reggae icon Jimmy Cliff to be accorded official funeral

The late reggae icon Jimmy Cliff is to be accorded an official funeral.

Culture Minister Olivia Grange made the disclosure during today’s sitting of Parliament.

Jimmy Cliff whose real name is James Chambers passed away yesterday after a period of illness.

He was 81.

Ms Grange noted that Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness spoke with Jimmy’s widow Latifa, today.

The Minister said the reggae legend left details of how he wants Jamaica to bid him farewell.

And other parliamentarians paid tribute to Jimmy Cliff today.

Among them are Prime Minister Holness and Opposition Leader Mark Golding.

Dr. Holness described Jimmy Cliff as a cultural ambassador.

For his part, Mr. Golding said the musical legend and actor was a special kind of man.
