Latanya Wilson wins Club Champion Award as Adelaide continues to celebrate back to back titles
Sunshine Girls star defenders Latanya Wilson and Shamera Sterling-Humphrey have both been awarded by their club Adelaide Thunderbirds for their outstanding contributions during the just concluded season in the Suncorp Super Netball League.
The distinctions, handed out at the Thunderbirds Awards Night on Sunday, came a day after Wilson, Sterling-Humphrey and Jamaican compatriot Romelda Aiken-George – who scored a game-high 42 goals – played pivotal roles in helping Adelaide win back-to-back titles following a 59-57 victory over the Melbourne Vixens.
Wilson, now in her 4th season with the team, won the Club Champion award for the first time following a sensational campaign where she starred across all three defensive positions while amassing 1094 Nissan Net points, 89 deflections, 46 intercepts and 11 rebounds.
The 23-year-old was also instrumental in the Grand Final and won two Player of the Match accolades in Rounds 7 and 10 along with three fan-voted MVP’s.
Sterling-Humphrey, the reigning League MVP, was also recognized at the Awards Night as she was named Player of the Finals after shining on the big stage.
In her side’s Major Semi-Final victory, Sterling-Humphrey recorded an incredible 133.5 Nissan Net Points to go with 14 gains, 5 intercepts and 8 rebounds.
In the big dance, she finished with 56 Nissan Net Points, 3 gains, 3 intercepts and 7 deflections.
