Lamar Jackson eyes third MVP award as he makes finalist list for 2024 NFL MVP

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson is set to make history as he is in line to become the 7th player in NFL history to win consecutive MVP awards. Jackson, the reigning MVP, is one of five finalists for the Associated Press 2024 NFL Most Valuable Player Award, alongside Josh Allen, Saquon Barkley, Joe Burrow, and Jared Goff.

Jackson, who is vying for his third MVP award, had a stellar 2024 season, throwing for 4,172 yards and 41 touchdowns while rushing for 915 yards and adding four rushing touchdowns. His career highs in passing yards and touchdowns, along with his 119.6 passer rating—leading the NFL—earned him first-team All-Pro honors for the third time. Under Jackson’s leadership, the Ravens secured the AFC North title before being eliminated in the Divisional Round by Allen and the Buffalo Bills.

Joining Jackson as a finalist is Josh Allen, the Buffalo Bills’ quarterback, who led his team to their fifth straight AFC East title. Allen threw for 3,731 yards and 28 touchdowns while running for 531 yards and 12 touchdowns. Despite a solid season, the Bills were eliminated in the playoffs, but Allen’s performance keeps him in the MVP conversation.

New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley also made the cut after a historic season, rushing for 2,005 yards—marking the eighth-best rushing total in NFL history. Barkley’s contributions helped the Eagles win the NFC East and secure a spot in the Conference Championship game.

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, who led the NFL with a career-high 4,918 passing yards and 43 touchdowns, is another finalist despite his team missing the playoffs with a 9-8 record. Burrow’s numbers were impressive, but the Bengals fell short of postseason success.

Rounding out the finalists is Jared Goff, the Detroit Lions’ quarterback, who threw for 4,629 yards and 37 touchdowns. Goff guided the Lions to the No. 1 seed in the NFC before their elimination in the Divisional Round by Washington.

The winner will be announced at the NFL Honors show on February 6.
