Lactation specialists could be game-changers in Jamaica’s breastfeeding promotion – Clarendon Health Department

A call is being made for more lactation specialists in the public health system to assist new mothers in managing common breastfeeding challenges after they and their newborns have been sent home from the hospital.

Parish Nutritionist in the Clarendon Health Department, Debbie Ottey Golding made the appeal as Jamaica observes Breastfeeding Awareness Week.

The week is commemorated from September 14 to 20, under the theme: Closing the Gap, Breastfeeding Support for All.

Speaking with IRIE FM News, Mrs. Golding Ottey said having lactation specialists help mothers navigate myths and issues relating to breastfeeding will be a game-changer in the Government’s efforts to get more mothers to embrace the practice.
