The Labour Ministry will be meeting with the management of the Bahia Principe Hotels in St Ann as well the unions representing workers, in relation to the indefinite closure of the hotels.

Labour Minister Pearnel Charles Junior made the disclosure today.

It comes after the Bustamante Industrial Trade Union (BITU) called for the Ministry’s urgent intervention in the matter yesterday, noting that the decision by the hotel was sudden.

The hotel in a letter to staff on November 15, 2025 said that the Bahia Principe Grand Jamaica and Bahia Principe Luxury Runaway Bay hotels in St Ann would be closed indefinitely and that it would commence redundancy exercises.

According to BITU President Kavan Gayle from the outset, the Union strongly rejected any move toward mass redundancy and pressed the company to explore all available options to avoid job loss, consistent with section 11 of the labour relations code.

Mr Gayle said the hotel made the decision despite active discussions and without any conclusion to the process.

In a media release this afternoon, Mr. Charles said his Ministry will meet with the parties to ensure that the discussions are done in a structured and fair manner.

The ministry said the meeting is set for Monday November 24, 2025.
