Labour Minister Pearnel Charles Junior has stated that the authorities will take strong action to preserve the integrity of the overseas work programme.

Mr Charles JNR said this is a final warning to persons who undertake actions outside of the law, in relation to the programme.

He pointed out that just yesterday, he was sent a message, which is being circulated on social media, claiming he can help them get onto the farm work programme.

The minister said the farm work programme is important to the country, noting that 2026 marks 60 years since Jamaican workers have been going to Canada for work.

He underscored the importance of the overseas work programme, especially following Hurricane Melissa.

The Government today officially sent off the first group of seasonal agricultural workers for the 2026 farming season in Canada.

98 departed today and 85 will leave tomorrow, totalling 183 workers.

They will be engaged in green house agriculture, as well as the cultivation of fruits and vegetables, over the next eight months.
