Steps are being taken to sensitize citizens in the Corporate Area about the homeless, as part of efforts to curb attacks against members of this vulnerable group.

The Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation is also seeking to identify safe places for the homeless.

Kingston Mayor Andrew Swaby noted that while there has been no report of any recent incident, homeless people have been attacked while sleeping on the streets.

He said the committee tasked with managing issues related to the homeless is actively looking at solutions.

He was speaking at the KSAMC’s New Year’s Day feeding of the homeless event.
