Olympic silver medallist Kishane Thompson will not line up in the 100 metres at the Lausanne Diamond League on Wednesday, after media reports revealed that the Jamaican sprinter is experiencing shin discomfort.

“Kishane Thompson will not compete in the men’s 100m,” organisers said in a statement on Monday.

Thompson was expected to renew his rivalry with American star Noah Lyles following their thrilling showdown in Silesia on Saturday. That race marked their first meeting since last year’s Paris Olympic final, where Lyles edged Thompson by just five thousandths of a second.

This time, however, it was Thompson who came out on top, clocking 9.87 seconds to secure the win, while Lyles ran a season’s best 9.90 seconds to finish second.

Thompson, who ran a blistering 9.75 at the Jamaican Championships in June, is not expected to compete again before the World Championships in Tokyo in September, where he will start as the man to beat.

Despite Thompson’s absence, Lyles will still face Jamaican opposition in Lausanne. Oblique Seville, who defeated the American at the London Diamond League in July, is listed among the starters.

On the women’s side, world champion Shericka Jackson is missing from the 200 metres field. Jackson, however, showed strong form in Silesia on Saturday, taking victory in 22.17 seconds, her fastest time of the season.
