Kingston Metropolitan Transport Operators’ Alliance condemns stone throwing of JUTC buses; says PPV operators have no opposition to rural school buses

The Kingston Metropolitan Transport Operators’ Alliance (KMTOA) has joined in condemning acts of vandalism against buses owned by the Jamaica Urban Transit Company.

In a statement yesterday, the police said the JUTC reported that the attacks are impacting the newer buses, particularly along sections of Washington Boulevard between Headley Avenue and Drewsland.

According to the police, the JUTC highlighted a concerning pattern of interference from illegal and unscrupulous individuals, usually associated with illegal taxis, as well as public passenger vehicle (PPV) operators, who are suspected of being involved in the attacks.

Speaking with IRIE FM News, KMTOA Chairman Lorraine Finnikin said the attacks should not be tolerated.

Mr. Finnikin added that the police should act swiftly to ensure passengers’ safety and protect taxpayers’ investments.

Amidst reports that the new school buses are among those targeted by vandals, Mr. Finnikin pointed out that while PPV operators are against the JUTC operating in rural areas, there is no opposition to the school buses.

He is also suggesting that community policing be used as one strategy to get more citizens to identify perpetrators.
