Kingston Mayor Andrew Swaby says fees being paid by vendors to use the Constant Spring Arcade cannot remain the same.

During a meeting with the vendors recently, the mayor outlined that the fees being paid cannot keep the Arcade open.

He explained that if the KSAMC should close the market, it would save up to $31 million.

As such, he pointed out that the fees will have to be increased.

His statement was supported by President of the Vendors’ Association at the Constant Spring Arcade, Karlene Spencer, who noted that she would welcome an increase in vendors’ fees if the KSAMC implements one.

She also added that traders would support higher charges if the extra revenue is used to fund much needed upgrades to the Arcade such as running water in the facility.

During the event the Mayor also reopened a refurbished restroom that had been out of use for some time and urged vendors to pay their fees so the KSAMC can undertake further upgrades to the arcade.
