A call is being made for a more effective system to treat with victims of child abuse and trauma.

Kingston Mayor Andrew Swaby made the appeal during a child month ceremony at the Secret Garden Monument in downtown Kingston yesterday.

Mayor Swaby lamented that the current facilities are woefully inadequate, noting that over 14,000 children were abused last year.

He said the nation’s children are no longer safe, even in areas deemed safe-havens.
