Khadija Shaw wins PFA Player of The Year award

Reggae Girls captain Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw has won the Professional Footballers Association (PFA) Women’s Player of The Year award following her superb campaign for Manchester City in the 2023-2024 Women’s Super League.

Shaw, the reigning CONCACAF Women’s Player of The Year, won the award after leading the Women’s Super League with 21 goals in 18 games – eight more than her closest rival – despite her season ending prematurely in April due to injury, as City squandered the lead to end second to Chelsea on goal difference.

Before she was sidelined Shaw was in devastating form, becoming the first WSL player to score three hat-tricks in a calendar year (2023). She continued her hot streak between November 2023 and January 2024 grabbing three trebles in just four matches and also went on to overtake Georgia Stanway as City’s record goalscorer.

“I am both happy and proud to have received this award – to be recognized in such a way by my peers is a very special honour,” Shaw said.

“I also want to thank my team-mates and the entire coaching staff because without them this would not be possible.

“I’d also like to congratulate all my fellow nominees who are such amazing players. To have been voted the player of the year means a lot.”

Winning the PFA award for the first time saw Shaw completing a hat-trick of domestic accolades. She had already been named the WSL Player of The Year for 2023-24 and was also named Player of The Year at the Women’s Football Awards.

Her contributions also saw her being named to the Women’s Super League Team of The Season.

In the men’s categories, Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden was named Men’s Player of The Year while Chelsea’s Cole Palmer collected the Young Player of The Year award.
