Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw is the 2023/2024 Barclays Women’s Super League player of the season

Reggae Girlz and Manchester City striker Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw is the 2023/2024 Barclays Women’s Super League player of the season.

The announcement comes on the heels of Thursday’s Football Writers’ Association Awards Gala, where she was officially presented with the F.W.A Women’s footballer of the year trophy. 

Shaw has been a key figure in City’s push for the WSL title, registering 21 goals in just 18 appearances, while also providing three assists.

The 27 year old is on course to finish as the league’s top scorer, having incredibly averaged a goal every 66 minutes so far this campaign where she became the first player to score three WSL hat-tricks in a calendar year [2023] and, between November 2023 and January 2024, continued her blistering form grabbing three trebles in just four matches.

Finding the net in both Manchester derbies, Shaw’s clinical finish at the Etihad Stadium in March saw her create history by becoming City’s record goalscorer, overtaking Georgia Stanway in the process.

However, her season was cut short in April after picking up an injury during a 5-0 thrashing of West Ham United when she chased down a rebound from a Jess Park effort on the stroke of half time, pulling up abruptly and hobbling to the side of the pitch..

Manchester City in her absence squandered a lead and faces a shootout with defending champions Chelsea on Saturday’s final day of the season where they need beat Aston Villa by three more goals than Chelsea can manage against Manchester United at Old Trafford to secure the WSL title.
