KFTL says no worker injured or cargo damaged during passage of squall line yesterday

Kingston Freeport Terminal Limited (KFTL) says no worker was injured or cargo damaged during the passage of a squall line yesterday.

The weather system brought strong winds across sections of the country.

Outdoor operations at the terminal were halted temporarily during the weather event.

A video that has been circulating on social media shows several containers toppled over, apparently as a result of the squall line.

Providing an update to IRIE FM News this morning, KFTL’s Corporate Communications Manager, Trudy Belnavis said the impacted containers were empty and that normal operations have resumed.

She also noted that KFTL extended its work hours yesterday to make up for the temporary disruption.

The squall also knocked out power for thousands of  Jamaica Public Service customers, after strong winds threw debris into electricity lines.

However, restoration efforts began yesterday, with full restoration by midnight.
