Phoenix Suns and Team USA All Star forward Kevin Durant has finalized a deal to purchase a minority stake in French champions Paris Saint Germain.

PSG which is the largest club in France, has been crowned Ligue 1 champions 10 times since the 2012-13 campaign, including in each of the last three seasons, and are mainstays in the Champions League. The team has been owned by Qatar Sports Investments since 2011 and is valued at around £4.5 billion.

According reports, the purchase was made through Durant’s investment firm – Boardroom – which bought a ‘single digit millions’ shareholding in U.S. private investment firm Arctos that had previously purchased a 12.5 percent stake in the Parisian club.

Boardroom, the media and entertainment brand co-founded by Durant, confirmed his investment into PSG on Monday.

Durant becomes the latest in a line of American athletes that have purchased ownership stakes in European clubs after the likes of LA Lakers star LeBron James who owns a minority stake in Liverpool and former NFL stars J.J. Watt and Tom Brady who purchased minority stakes in Burnley F.C. and Birmingham City F.C., Respectively.

The 35 year old created history at Paris 2024 by becoming the first male basketball player to win five Olympic gold medals, doing so in 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020, and 2024.
