Kerrica Hill celebrates back to back World U20 sprint hurdles titles
World number one and defending champion Kerrica Hill wrote her name in the history books on Friday when she became the second Jamaican to win back to back titles in the women’s 100 meters hurdles at the Global Under 20 level.
The former Hydel standout was sensational, leading from start to finish in winning win the event and give Jamaica its second gold medal at the World Athletics Under 20 Championship in Lima, Peru.
Hill, who was unbeaten over the previous two rounds, cleared all 10 barriers smoothly to take the gold in 12.99 seconds, to follow up her title won in Cali, Colombia in 2022.
Jamaica’s other medal came in the girls 200 meters final, when Shanoya Douglas battled her way to finish third in 23.10s. The race was won by the 100 meters silver medallist Adejah Hodge of the British Virgin Islands.
Meanwhile, Jamaica’s medal stock could increase on Saturday’s final day, with the country’s athletes listed to compete in 5 of the 13 finals on the programme.
First up will be Shaquann Dunn who will tackle a quality field in the boys shot put final starting at 4 ‘o’ clock Jamaica time.
The other Jamaican individual listed for a final is the hard working Daniel Wright who runs from lane seven in the 400 meters hurdles at 4:45pm.
The Jamaican quartet will feature in the women’s 4x100m final at 5:40pm where they will run from lane seven, with their male counterparts hitting the track shortly after at 5:50pm
Jamaica will also compete in the women’s mile relay final starting at 6:30pm.
Entering the final day of competition Jamaica lies ninth on the table with three medals, 2 gold and 1 bronze.,The USA leads with 12 medals – 4 gold, 4 silver and 4 bronze.
