The election held yesterday in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines saw former Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves, who had reportedly planned to invite Vybz Kartel to perform after securing another victory, suffer a crushing defeat.

Despite a pre-election appearance by Popcaan that energized supporters, it was not enough. Godwin Friday of the New Democratic Party defeated Gonsalves of the Unity Labour Party, ending his 24-year reign.

Prime Minister elect Godwin Friday has already tapped into dancehall energy, with performances by Kranium and Shenseea helping to fire up supporters as the country welcomed a new chapter.
