K.D. Knight’s attorneys want police to probe the treatment and use of an audio played at JLP mass rally

The attorneys for Senior People’s National Party member K.D. Knight want the police to probe the treatment and use of an audio that was played at a recent JLP mass rally in Half Way Tree, St. Andrew.

The attorneys say the manipulated audio recording, was purported to be their client speaking disparagingly of Opposition Leader and PNP President Mark Golding.

The audio was played during the presentation of Dr. Christopher Tufton.

The law firm Knight, Junior and Samuels wrote to Police Commissioner Dr. Kevin Blake saying its the view that the actions of Dr. Christopher Tufton are in breach of the Cyber Crimes Act.

The attorneys cited sections 8, 12 and 14 of the Act and section 97 of the Representation of the People Act as the basis of their request for a probe.

Section 8 says a person commits an offence, if that person accesses any computer and inputs, alters, deletes or suppresses data with the intention that the data be considered or acted on, as it were the original data.

The attorneys said the manipulated recording unlawfully attributed to Mr. Knight was orchestrated and presented as the original statements of their client and to bring into disrepute the reputation of their client and question the integrity of the opposition leader.

They added that they are of the view that a forensic examination of the recording will confirm that it was manipulated for political gain and in breach of the Cyber Crime and the representation of the People Acts.

As a result the law firm is asking that the matter be referred to the Communications Forensics and Cyber Crime Division of the JCF for further investigation.

They are asking that the investigation commences at the earliest time possible.
