JUTC urges citizens to desist from stoning buses
The Jamaica Urban Transit Company Limited (JUTC) is urging members of the public to desist from stoning its buses, after one of its units — which was commissioned into service on Tuesday — came under attack last evening in Kingston.
The JUTC says at about 7:45 P.M., a bus operating on Route 32B was attacked by unidentified individuals in the vicinity of Drews Land.
It said stones were thrown at the bus, resulting in significant damage to the front windshield.
The bus was fully occupied at the time, but none of the passengers sustained any injury.
The incident was reported to the Jamaica Constabulary Force and investigations are underway.
Corporate Communications Manager at the JUTC, Shantol Thompson said such behaviour threatens the safety of drivers and commuters, and also undermines the company’s ability to deliver reliable public transportation.
She said there have been other recent incidents of stoning in the Corporate Area.
The JUTC is reminding citizens that the buses are a critical part of national assets, serving thousands of commuters daily, including students, senior citizens, and workers.
Anyone with information about yesterday’s incident is being encouraged to contact the police.
