JUTC says today’s strike by drivers at Portmore, Rockfort, Spanish Town depots unnecessary disruption
The Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) says today’s strike by drivers at the Portmore, Rockfort and Spanish Town depots is an unnecessary disruption.
The industrial action disrupted several bus routes, impacting the commute of some members of the public, including school children.
JUTC’s Corporate Communications Manager, Shantole Thompson told IRIE FM News that the drivers withdrew their services, following an incident involving two workers who are represented by the Union of Clerical and Supervisory Employees.
Ms. Thompson said JUTC’s management took preliminary steps to address the matter, which were communicated to all relevant parties.
She noted that despite the drivers’ call for the immediate firing of the two employees, assurances were given that appropriate action would be taken upon the conclusion of an investigation.
The Corporate Communications Manager maintained that JUTC must follow due process.
She said the JUTC has been urging the drivers to resume their duties and allow the process to unfold in a fair and just manner.
