JUTC fleet to be expanded with arrival of 63 buses tomorrow

The fleet of the Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) is to be expanded with the arrival of 63 buses tomorrow.

These represent the first batch of the 100 buses expected, with the second batch to arrive on July 9.

JUTC says this significant fleet expansion will enhance the company’s capacity to deliver more efficient, reliable service across the Kingston Metropolitan Transport Region and surrounding areas.

JUTC says to maximise the benefits of these new buses, it has undertaken a thorough review of commuter feedback, complaint records and route performance.

Special attention is being placed on routes with high passenger demand and recurring service delays.

The bus company states that in line with its commuter-first approach, several routes have been identified for improved service, based on feedback from the public and detailed performance analysis.

14 routes were flagged through consistent commuter complaints about wait times, overcrowding and insufficient coverage. With the additional fleet, JUTC says it is prioritising service enhancements on these corridors to better meet commuter needs.

The routes cover Portmore, Rockfort, Papine, Spanish Town, Route 22 – Downtown to Spanish Town via Spanish Town Road and Route 31 – Downtown to Duhaney Park via Chancery Street.

JUTC says the arrival of the 100 new buses will help it to better serve high-demand routes and improve overall service reliability.

According to the bus company, it is taking a data-driven and compassionate approach to ensure that every adjustment addresses real commuter needs.

The new fleet comprises both CNG and diesel units.

The diesel units are coach buses, which will be used to enhance charter services and premium express routes.

10% of the new buses are specially outfitted to cater to members of the disabled community.
