JUNO Awards reverses controversial decision: Reggae category returns

The organizers of the JUNO Awards will release an official statement on Monday (Sept 23), following their announcement to reverse the controversial decision to pull four awards from the 2025 ceremony, including the Reggae category.

In a post shared to his verified Instagram account, Allan Reid, the president and CEO of the JUNO Awards and the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS), confirmed that three of the four categories (Reggae, Christian/Gospel, and Children’s) will be reinstated. Reid also mentioned that an official notice detailing all changes for the 2025 JUNO Awards will be issued on Monday, September 23.

However, the post did not clarify the fate of the International Album of the Year award, the fourth category slated to go on “hiatus” next year.

Reid concluded by stating that they remain committed to ensuring the JUNO Awards reflect industry excellence and represent the diversity of the Canadian music scene.

The initial decision to drop the four awards, reported earlier this month, sparked outrage from Canadian artists, community leaders, and music fans.
