Junior doctors have taken industrial action over wage issues
Junior doctors have taken industrial action.
IRIE FM News has learnt that doctors across the island called in sick this morning.
The junior doctors have been growing impatient with the continued delay in resolving overtime remuneration and other issues.
The Jamaica Medical Doctors’ Association (JMDA) wrote to Finance Minister, Fayval Williams on Thursday about the members’ disappointment and had given the Ministry 24 hours to address the issue.
The JMDA noted that the Association cannot guarantee that the health sector will remain unaffected in the coming days.
IRIE FM News understands that the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) and the Bustamante Hospital for Children are only seeing emergency cases.
At the UHWI, the clinics have been closed and workers at the Accident and Emergency Department are reportedly on a go-slow. Only senior doctors are working.
Elsewhere it is reported that mainly senior doctors are carrying out duties.
