Julien Alfred lone Caribbean nominee in 2025 Laureus World Sports Awards

Olympic sprint champions Julien Alfred of St Lucia is the lone Caribbean Athlete named in a group of six nominees from track and field and 25 athletes overall for the 2025 Laureus World Sports Awards.

The ceremony, to be held next month in Spain , sees Alfred the Olympic 100 metres champion, and the 2024 St Lucia Sportswoman of the Year joined by ; Sydney Mclaughlin -Leverone, Sifan Hassan, Faith Kipyegon, pole vaulting legend Mondo Duplantis, and Bostwana sprinter Letsile Tebogo who won the men’s 200 metres at the Paris Olympic Games. 

Meanwhile, the full list also includes; The most decorated Gymnast of all-time, Simone Biles, Spanish Tennis star Carlos Alcaraz, formula one champion Max Verstappen, stand out NBA player Victor Wenbanyama and the Indian Wicket -Keeper batsman Rishabh Pant. 

The ceremony, marking the awards’ 25th anniversary, will take place in Madrid on April 21 and celebrate the greatest athletic achievements of 2024, featuring heroes from the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games, basketball champions, and a host of world-record breakers.
