Julian Robinson named new head track and field coach at Calabar High School
Calabar High School has announced the appointment of Julian Robinson, Jamaica’s leading throws coach, as the new Head Track and Field Coach. Robinson steps into the role following the tenure of Corey Bennett, who guided the school to a creditable second-place finish at the ISSA Boys and Girls Championships in March.
Robinson’s coaching career spans nearly two decades, driven by a deep commitment to give back to his alma mater. Since beginning his journey, he has been instrumental in transforming Calabar into a powerhouse in high school throws events. Under his mentorship, Calabar has produced an impressive roster of elite throwers, including Olympic hopefuls and national champions such as Fedrick Dacres, Traves Smikle, Ashinia Miller, Chad Wright, and Kai Chang.
A former Calabar athlete himself, Robinson represented the school in throws competitions during the 1980’s. His outstanding contributions to athletics earned him the prestigious 2018 North America, Central America and Caribbean (NACAC) Coach of the Year award.
In his new role as Head Coach, Robinson will now oversee the entire track and field program at Calabar High, building on the school’s rich legacy of athletic excellence.
In related news, there are reports that Omar Hawes, former track coach at Calabar, may be making a return to the Red Hills Road institution, potentially adding further strength to the coaching staff.
