The Jamaica Umbrella Groups of Churches (JUGC) has condemned Friday’s tragic incident in Sligoville, St. Catherine, which claimed the lives of two police officers.

Three alleged gunmen were fatally shot during the incident.

The JUGC said the killing of law enforcement officials is a matter of deep national concern and a troubling reminder of the dangers faced by those who protect Jamaican communities.

The Group also acknowledged the deaths of the three civilians and expressed particular concern for the child wounded during the incident.

JUGC said it is deeply disturbed by police reports indicating that the alleged gunmen deliberately used a child to create an opportunity to attack the officers.

The organization stressed that the circumstances surrounding the incident must be thoroughly and impartially investigated.

JUGC said it stands in firm solidarity with the Jamaica Constabulary Force in its fight against crime and violence.

The Group also extended condolences to the families of the slain officers.

JUGC is urging all Jamaicans to reject violence and work toward a safer and more peaceful nation.
