The Jamaica Teachers’ Association, (JTA) is urging schools affected by the hand, foot and mouth disease to implement the necessary measures to prevent its spread.

This comes in response to a recent increase in cases at some schools in Manchester.

Robins Hall Primary School in Northeast Manchester was closed yesterday following a suspected outbreak.

JTA President Dr. Mark Smith said authorities are monitoring the situation and providing support to the affected schools.

Meanwhile, Medical Officer of Health for Manchester, Dr. Nadine Williams, has reassured that the disease is not life-threatening and there is no official outbreak.

However, she emphasized that parents and staff should continue taking precautions to prevent further transmission.
