JTA President confident teachers will minimize learning loss following hurricane Melissa

President of the Jamaica Teachers’ Association, Mark Malabver says he is confident the island’s educators will do what is necessary to reduce learning loss, following hurricane Melissa.

Many schools, particularly in western parishes, remained closed or reduced school hours after the devastation caused by the hurricane.

Mr. Malabver says with the right support for teachers, the learning loss can be minimized.

He noted that the association will partner with the government to bolster support for educators.

In the meantime, the president said the government made a commitment to assess all schools before reopening in January and the JTA will be holding the ministry accountable.
