JTA President calls for innovation and evidence-based reform in education sector

Jamaica Teachers’ Association President Mark Malabver says the education sector is in need of greater research, innovation, evidence based policy, and courageous implementation.

He was speaking at a JTA meeting in Manchester recently.

According to Mr. Malabver, with issues such as violence and teacher migration still a concern, the government must embark on steps to transform the sector.

He said transformation does not happen by opinions, but through informed decision-making powered by research.

He argued that countries such as Finland and Singapore did not achieve success in education transformation by accident, but by heavy investment in educational research, teacher development, and strategic implementation.
