JTA condemns any threats against teachers and school administrators

The Jamaica Teachers Association, (JTA) says it condemns any threats against teachers and school administrators.

The JTA’s condemnation follows a report, from the St. Elizabeth police yesterday, that lawmen are investigating alleged threats, against persons at the primary school, where a submachine gun was recently seized, from a 7-year-old boy.

The gun was reportedly found in a bag, which the child had last Thursday.

The boy’s father was arrested Thursday afternoon.

According to police, persons at the school are being threatened following the incident.

They say they are working to identify the source of the threats.

Speaking with Irie Fm news last evening, JTA President Dr. Mark Smith condemned the threats and said efforts should be made to ensure that staff and students are safe.
