JTA Annual Conference to debate resolution which calls on government to outline retention strategies for teachers
The Annual Conference of the Jamaica Teachers Association (JTA) is to debate a resolution, calling on the Education Ministry to outline retention strategies for teachers and provide a detailed plan by the end of November.
The resolution was moved today by trustee and former JTA President Dr. Garth Anderson who cited teacher migration and the recruitment of foreign teachers which is being undertaken by the Education Ministry.
Over recent years, many teachers have left the Jamaican classroom opting to teach overseas.
Dr. Anderson read the resolution at the first session of theJ TA’s 60th annual conference this morning.
The resolution further calls for the Education Ministry’s response to the migration challenge by the end of November.
The resolution was expected to be debated this afternoon.
The conference is being held under the theme: “Preserving the Legacy: Remaining Relevant for the Future.
