JPS says damaged roadways have impacted restoration efforts across the island
The Jamaica Public Service (JPS) says damaged roadways have impacted restoration across the island, following Hurricane Melissa.
Director of Corporate Communications, Winsome Callum said while the hurricane blocked roadways, through downed trees and debris, there are areas in which the thoroughfares have been significantly damaged.
Speaking on IRIE FM’s Running Africa programme, Ms. Callum said this has created an issue for teams to access these communities.
However, she said JPS’ teams have been working assiduously to find other ways to access these areas.
According to JPS, as at Sunday, November 09, 64% of customers were reconnected to the grid.
It said customers from Kingston and St. Andrew, St. Catherine, St. Thomas, Clarendon, Manchester, sections of Portland, St. Elizabeth, St. Ann, St. Mary and St. James are among those with electricity.
