JPS says customers will see increases in fuel charge on bills due to Middle East War

The Jamaica Public Service (JPS) says customers will see increases in the fuel charge on bills due to the war in the Middle East.

The war involving the United States, Israel and Iran is in its 25th day.

Missile attacks have forced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz in the Middle East through which a significant per cent of oil is shipped.

According to the BBC, as conflicting accounts of potential talks between U.S. and Iran emerged, the price of Brent crude oil rose to $113USD a barrel today, after plunging yesterday.

Experts say countries including Jamaica will feel the far reaching impacts of the war.

Speaking with IRIE FM News today, the JPS confirmed that it will be affected by the rising oil prices.

It said the increases on the global market will result in increases in the fuel charge on bills.

The power company said details on what the increases will look like and when they will take effect are not available at this time.
