JPS President urges citizens to stay away from downed power lines

President of the Jamaica Public Service (JPS) Hugh Grant has pleaded with residents to stay away from downed power lines.

He made the comment following the deaths of two civilians who reportedly got entangled in JPS power lines.

The incidents occurred in Mountain View, St Andrew and Race Course, Clarendon.

Speaking at a press conference in St Elizabeth yesterday, Mr Grant urged citizens to report downed power lines to JPS immediately.

Meanwhile, Mr. Grant expressed confidence in meeting its August 31 deadline for full power restoration of service in St Elizabeth.

He says he is confident in the team that is on the ground.

He says JPS has employed a liaison officer who will work with members of the Municipal Corporation to share timelines for restoration to different communities.
