JPS now required to list all communities still without power and restoration date for each
The Jamaica Public Service (JPS) is now required to list all communities still without power following Hurricane Beryl’s passage and state when restoration for each can be expected.
Following a suggestion made by Energy Minister Daryl Vaz during a meeting with JPS directors, managers, and shareholders today.
The meeting was called to facilitate a review of the status of restoration efforts across affected areas and to strategize how to ensure swift and comprehensive recovery of services for citizens.
This as many communities remain without electricity over three weeks after the hurricane.
Minister Vaz had also taken issue with what he called inaccuracies in the JPS’ reports about power restoration to communities.
Mr. Vaz described today’s meeting as successful, noting that the JPS will change how it provides restoration updates to the public.
He added that several other steps are to be taken, including the engagement of more line-men.
He said the JPS is to provide a revised report for him to present to Cabinet on Monday.
