JPS and some government entities collaborating to restore electricity to several communities
The Jamaica Public Service (JPS) and some government entities are collaborating to restore electricity to several communities still without power.
The aim of the partnership is to clear blocked roads and provide access to the JPS teams so they can carry out their duties effectively.
Among the entities aiding in the road clearance are the National Works Agency and the Local Government Ministry.
Speaking with IRIE FM News, JPS Communication Manager Winsome Callum said communities in seven parishes have received electricity.
These include: St. Thomas, Portland, Kingston and St. Andrew, St. Catherine, sections of Northern Trelawny, St. James and St. Mary.
She said a few communities in eastern parishes remain without power due to access challenges.
Ms. Callum said approximately 15,000 customers are still without light.
As it relates to the August 12 restoration deadline, she said there may be a delay in reconnection for South Western St. Elizabeth which was the hardest hit during the hurricane.
