John Campbell to resume career after 22-month suspension ends
Jamaica and West Indies batsman John Campbell is now free to return to the Jamaica Scorpions squad for the upcoming regional First Class season.
A ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) in April saw Campbell’s four-year ban being reduced to two years and two months. With the suspension ending in August the former Tacky High standout is now eligible to return to competitive cricket with immediate effect.
Campbell was banned originally for four years by the Jamaica Anti-Doping Commission (JADCo) in October 2022 after failing to provide a blood sample to doping control officers in April of that year.
The Court found Campbell did not deliberately try to evade and that the issue was out of negligence on his part.
Before being banned, Campbell played in 20 Tests for West Indies since making his debut against England in January 2019 and scored 888 runs at an average of 26.11, including three half-centuries in those games.
His last Test was against Bangladesh in June 2022.
