JMDA to meet Ministries of Finance and Health following industrial action yesterday
A meeting with the Jamaica Medical Doctors Association (JMDA) and the Ministries of Finance and Health is to take place this morning to discuss overtime remuneration and retroactive payments.
It follows yesterday’s protest by junior doctors across the island, highlighting their dissatisfaction with the continued delay in resolving the wage concerns.
The doctors returned to work last evening.
The JMDA wrote to Finance Minister, Fayval Williams last Thursday, about their concerns and indicated that normality could not be guaranteed if the issues were not addressed in 24 hours.
Yesterday, health facilities island-wide began operating under emergency protocols as juniors called in sick.
This led to an emergency conciliatory meeting facilitated by the Labour Ministry.
JMDA President, Dr. Renee Badroe said another meeting is to take place today with the Ministries of Finance and Health at 10:30 A.M.
She is hoping that good sense will prevail.
