JMDA asks IDT for timeline on ruling in protracted overtime case

Written byShanice Gibbs

The Jamaica Medical Doctors’ Association is asking the Industrial Disputes Tribunal (IDT) if it can provide a timeline for the handing down of a ruling on the protracted overtime rate case.

In a release yesterday, the IDT noted that it was compelled to publicly address the issue surrounding the timeliness of awards.

However, it did not give a date when the ruling would be handed down.

In the meantime, the doctors are calling on the IDT to address statements, suggesting interference in what should be an objective and independent IDT process.

The overtime case has become increasingly urgent, with the doctors warning of possible disruptions in the public health sector if there is no ruling by the end of the work day today.

The doctors have threatened industrial action effective tomorrow, Friday October 2.
