The Jamaica Labour Party, has rejected what it describes, as the opposition’s attempt to bully the administration into excluding two former House Speakers from consideration for reappointment.

They are Marisa Dalrymple-Philibert , and Juliet Holness.

The party’s chairperson Dr. Angela Brown-Burke in a statement yesterday said their handling of certain issues, among them – the reports to parliament from the Auditor General and the Integrity Commission have eroded trust and confidence.

She said the PNP is calling for impartial leadership in the House.

In response, Jamaica Labour Party General Secretary Dr Horace Chang described the statement as out of order and most inappropriate.

He said while it would be irregular for the appointment of the speaker not to be supported by the opposition party, the JLPy will not take directives from the PNP or any group.

He said the party will not be dictated to, by the opposition concerning the positioning of two very capable women who were recently re-elected by the people with large majorities in their respective constituencies.

Dr. Chang added that the statement smacks of misogyny and arrogance, at a time when as a society, the country should be supporting capable women in leadership”.
