JHTA hopeful that U.S. re-evaluation of travel advisory for Jamaica will result in positive change
The Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association (JHTA) has expressed hope that when the United States completes its re-evaluation of the travel advisory for Jamaica, it will result in a positive change.
Secretary of State, Marco Rubio announced the re-evaluation during a press conference in Kingston yesterday with Prime Minister Andrew Holness following a short visit.
The last travel advisory published in July 2024 was a level 3, which urged Americans to reconsider travel to Jamaica due to crime.
It also asked travellers to exercise increased caution regarding medical services.
Mr. Rubio acknowledged Jamaica’s progress in bringing down the murder tally.
JHTA President Robin Russell said he is happy that the work done by Jamaica to tackle crime is being recognized by the USA.
Mr. Russell pointed out that a positive travel advisory would augur well for Jamaica especially for large groups which otherwise would have reconsidered travel due to concerns about insurance.
